Four close friends begin an investigation into the growing cosplay community within the Tampa Bay area. As they journey through several popular comic book and anime conventions, they begin to learn that there are fans, and then there are cosplayers. These cosplayers are more than just fans dressing in amazing costumes. They each have a story, a past, and a history to be told. Sometimes the stories are humorous, sometimes they shatter stereotypes, and sometimes they are heartbreaking. What started as an almost sarcastic view, the friends begin to learn that cosplay is far from a regular hobby. Cosplay is a way of life and a welcoming place for many people who have felt like an outsider. Through this special form of performance art, cosplayers are able to find their own identity and what many of them have been missing, a supportive family. After countless interviews the film crew learns that cosplay can also be used as a marketing tool as well as a way of bringing good into the world through a variety of charities. Through their journey, the friends learn you truly cannot judge a book by its cover, or in this case, by its wardrobe.
